Some brewers have a basic curiosity concerning their products: to better understand them and improve their properties, to optimize physical and flavor components, to extend shelf life, to emulate different beer styles, and to innovate novel beer types. More generally the goal is to produce increasingly higher quality and more consistent products on an improved and more efficient system. Up until now, the home brewing community has had a huge void of scientific information that would otherwise help achieve these goals. Modern Brewhouse was founded in February 2020 to help curious and quality-focused brewers access and understand that information.

By trade, he is a pharmacist (with a doctorate, PharmD from the Ohio Northern University), with years of experience working in Emergency Medicine, and also has a special board certification in Critical Care Pharmacy (BCCCP). As such, he has years of education and training that prepared him for the scientific and detail-oriented aspects of brewing, such as mathematics (including statistics), chemistry (inorganic, organic, and biological), microbiology, biology, evaluating scientific literature, study design, and various hands-on laboratory work like titrations, aseptic technique, and culture isolation. Currently, he is a stay-at-home father of his three-year-old son.
