Brass fittings are fine to use when building a brewing system, but there are certain disadvantages when compared to stainless steel.

  1. Brass contains some amount of lead, even "lead-free" fittings.[1] While probably not enough to matter, it's still a consideration.
  2. Stainless is more durable since it's a harder metal, and it doesn't degrade from chemical exposure as easily as brass.[2]
  3. The copper in brass accelerates staling. See copper for more info.
